WhatsApp Catalogue Approval & Rejection Fixes

Catalogue Approval Process

When you add or update an item in your WhatsApp catalogue, it doesn't go live instantly. Every product undergoes a mandatory review process by Meta’s automated systems (and occasionally manual reviewers). This ensures that all items comply with WhatsApp’s Business and Commerce Policies, maintaining a safe and high-quality shopping environment for users.

The Lifecycle of a Product Review

Status
What it Means
Action Required
Pending
The item is being reviewed by Meta.
None. This usually takes a few minutes but can take up to 24 hours.
Approved
The item passed review and is now visible to your customers.
You can now share this item in chats or include it in collections.
Rejected
The item violated a policy and is hidden from customers.
You must edit the item to comply or submit an appeal.

How Meta Reviews Your Items

The approval process focuses on three main areas:
  1. Product Consistency: Does the image match the description and the price?
  2. Prohibited Content: Is the item on the restricted list (e.g., healthcare products, alcohol, or digital services)?
  3. Image Quality: Is the image clear, or does it contain excessive text/watermarks that violate guidelines?
Common Reasons for Rejection
Most rejections happen automatically. Here are the top "red flags" to watch out for:
  1. Medical & Healthcare: Meta has a strict policy against selling medicines, medical devices (like thermometers), or supplements on the platform.
  2. Digital Services: The catalogue is designed for physical goods. Selling "Consultations," "Subscriptions," or "Digital Downloads" often leads to rejection.
  3. Misleading Descriptions: Using "clickbait" titles or promising unrealistic results (e.g., "Lose 10kg in 2 days") will trigger an immediate block.
  4. External Links: While you can include a website link, it must lead to a functional, secure (HTTPS) page that matches the product.

What to Do If an Item is Rejected

If Meta rejects your product, don't worry; you have two paths to fix it:

1. Edit and Resubmit

Small changes often solve the problem. Try:
  1. Swapping the image for a clearer one.
  2. Removing "sensitive" words from the description (e.g., "cure," "authentic," or brand names you don't own).
  3. Correcting the price if it seems unusually high or low.

2. Submit an Appeal

If you are certain your product complies with all policies, you can request a manual review.
  1. Go to the Account Quality section in your Meta Business Manager.
  2. Select the rejected item and click "Request Review."
  3. Provide a brief explanation of why the item should be approved.

Pro-Tip: The "Bulk Approval" Hack

If you are syncing a large inventory, don't upload everything at once. Upload 5–10 items first to ensure your images and descriptions are passing the automated check. Once those are approved, you can safely sync the rest of your collection.
