WhatsApp Business API Setup Checklist
WhatsApp Business API Setup Checklist
Setting up the WhatsApp Business Platform (API) involves several moving parts. Use this checklist to track your progress and ensure a smooth, professional launch for your brand.
Phase 1: Essential Prerequisites
Before you begin the technical setup, ensure you have these items ready:
Verified Business Documents: Digital copies of GST/Incorporation/Utility bills.
Dedicated Phone Number: A number not currently linked to a personal/business app.
Active Website: A live URL that clearly represents your business.
A solid foundation in Meta Business Suite prevents future messaging blocks:
2FA Enabled: Two-Factor Authentication turned "ON" for all admins.
Payment Method: A valid Credit/Debit card added to the Billing section.
Page Linking: Your official Facebook Page is added to the Business Portfolio.
Business Verification: Documents uploaded and status marked as "Pending" or "Verified."
Phase 3: WhatsApp Account (WABA) Registration
Connecting your number to the API via Convonite:
Display Name: Chosen according to Meta’s guidelines (matches legal name/branding).
OTP Verification: Number verified via SMS or Voice Call.
Profile Completion: Business address, description, and website added to the WhatsApp profile.
WABA 6-digit PIN: Secure 2FA PIN created for the API account.
Phase 4: Messaging & Compliance
Ensure your first interaction with customers is successful:
Message Templates: At least 2-3 "Utility" or "Marketing" templates submitted and approved by Meta.
Opt-in Strategy: A clear way for customers to agree to receive messages (e.g., a checkbox on your website).
Opt-out Path: A simple "Stop" or "Unsubscribe" keyword set up for automated compliance.
Phase 5: Team & Automation Go-Live
Final steps to start chatting:
Team Onboarding: Agents invited to the Convonite shared inbox.
Chatbot/Flow Test: Automated "Welcome" or "FAQ" flows tested for bugs.
Integration Check: API connected to your CRM (if applicable).
Messaging Limits: Checked your current tier (Standard starts at 250 or 1,000 conversations/day).
The "Ready to Scale" Milestone
Status | Messaging Limit | Goal
|
Tier 0 | 250 conversations/day | Initial testing & setup.
|
Tier 1 | 1,000 conversations/day | Business Verification completed.
|
Tier 2 | 10,000 conversations/day |
High-quality messaging history.
